[LL461]

Author:  Meyer, L.A.

Awards:  Booklist * Starred Review, AudiFile Earphones Award, Our History Project - Best Audio 2010

On the very day that Jacky Faber is to wed her true love, she is kidnapped by British Naval Intelligence and forced to embark on yet another daring mission—this time to search for sunken Spanish gold.

But when Jacky is involved, things don't always go as planned. Jacky has survived battles on the high seas, the stifling propriety of a Boston finishing school, and even confinement in a dank French prison. But no adventure has quite matched her opportunistic street-urchin desires—until now!

The Bloody Jack Adventure books are available from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

REVIEWS
AudioFile (Earphones Award)
"Katherine Kellgren's diligent research and tremendous talent shine through as she recounts the latest adventures of sailor Jacky Faber and her illustrious crew members, each with his own distinct voice and accent... Kellgren is a superb narrator of the Bloody Jack series. This is one of the most wonderful listening experiences one can have."

Booklist (Starred Review)
"If there were an Olympic gold medal for verbal gymnastics, Kellgren would certainly be a contender. In her reading of this seventh title in the Bloody Jack series (three previous audios are Odyssey Award honor titles, beginning with Bloody Jack in 2008), Kellgren expertly juggles Jacky’s Cockney accent, the proper upper-class British tones of Higgins and fiancé Jamie, various speech patterns of Spanish and Caribbean officers and merchants, and the softly cadenced southern tones of Jemima, a cook Jacky buys at a Charleston slave market and promptly sets free… Listeners unfamiliar with earlier titles will be equally entranced, as Jacky’s narrative fills in background information. This rousing audio version includes an illuminating bonus track in which Kellgren and Meyer interview each other. Another winning Jacky Faber title."

The Bulletin (Starred Review)
"If Meyer dares to leave such a vividly drawn heroine...and not deliver another installment, readers will have every right to mutiny."
